Gatsby’s Dream

Jotted down during a late night view

On AMC channel of meeting scene between

Robert Redford and Mia Farrow in “The Great Gatsby.”

/

He cries in the night a life in waiting;

It’s ten years gone since her innocence escaped him

And here is the moment when the world lived.

/

Her champagne parade glistens his soft white rooms

And, though the moment weighs upon him,

Her mood is lighter than the clouds.

/

He asks, “You didn’t really mean to lose me?”

She says, “The world broke our hearts!”

She spins and smiles and he is suspended,

/

But his empire built on a dream fades in it’s lightness;

And his romantic struggle is doomed

In a world that has no respect for love.
