Horizon spans a summer blue in winter New Year’s
Heat wave sky rise brilliant white mountains towering
Higher than any Grand Teton or Rocky Mountain
Seen in my youth, but these look more permanent
/
Solid and sound than any range I have crossed
In car or viewed from this morning’s last day distance.
A military jet crossing with vanishing white exhaust
Will be gone from view in minutes and long after flying
/
Will rot in a heap for decades or centuries useless
To permanent white mountains this Earth can create.
This marvelous sight across the southern sky will be
Erased by noon from the memory of God, not mine.
/
Tonight ends the year and these climbing and bulging
White Cloud Mountains will be gone by the last noon
Of 2002 and few knew mountains Los Angeles has never
Seen slowly went while Larry and Lost Angel Tara had tea.
